I think that this report while possibly holding true to music overall, does not apply to metal in particular. Most of today's metal doesn't get as much radio airplay, so that 38% must be how people first receive Top 40.

I strongly believe that since metal has become sub-genre'd to death, people are going straight to the internet for the exact type of music they want. Other than word of mouth or accidentally seeing a band on tour, I'm not so sure where else people would be able to hear "Animals as Leaders" or "Fit for an Autopsy" for example. I'd be interested in a metal-based survey and see how the two compare.

I'm sure the gig went great for FW. Not so good for headliner Queensryche. Who are going thru their decennial (10 years) argument to break up the band. Geoff Tate pushes the band to do more albums as a leader, yet the rest of the band finally revolt and want to go in a new direction. Same thing happened after Chris left in 1997 and then Kelly Gray quit the band in 2002-03. Which chapter opens next? We had the Kelly Gray era, the Jason Slater era, the Kelly Gray era II and now - ?

I'm pretty sure they are examples of heavy music not just metal, but rock as well. They do report some rock related news and bands that is relevant and worth mentioning. I'd like to know why most people who don't listen to metal (or know what it is) assume its death metal? Has it always been that way? I'm 21. I wasn't alive when metal started.

Goddamn it! I just wrote a long heart-felt comment about Dimebag and my piece of shit phone erased it before I had a chance to post! Fuck! Anyway, it won't do justice to my previous comment but I'll try to get to the point. I'm glad tha, even with the feud, all the remaining members of Pantera are on the same page. Pantera is not Pantera without Dimebag. I grew up with Pantera, watching their movies (if that's the proper term). Darrell was always my favorite. He seemed to be the most fun of the four guys. He seemed to understand that if you weren't having a great time you couldn't be a great band. I miss that quality in metal, today everyone is too worried about being hard or tough ir unforgiving. Fuck that mentality. Dimebag was amazing because he genuinely enjoyed his job, he seemed like someone that you (a fan) could actually be cool around without all the anxiety of meeting a rockstar. I never got to see Pantera live and I am very disappointed by that, and no offense to Wylde, but a Pantera reunion without Dimebag would be a sorry substitute. RIP Dimebag, you are sorely missed.

This article is not well thought out. I am a huge Manson fan from back in the day and followed his every move since. During the last few years he as dismembered the Heriophant which was the most popular gathering place of his fans. This was an important place because since Manson rarely gives online updates, his fans where able to fill in the gaps...and I went there every day. Next came Babalon. It was the next official board, but I don't think all the fans ended up finding it and the community took a hit, but I still went about every other day. Two months ago...when in every other era, was the most exciting time with fans trading new photos, interviews, tidbits of info on the new album...Babalon was shuttered. WTF?? This was the first time since my 13+ years of fan service that I didn't know the album release date. His sales numbers have nothing to do with his releasing this on a indie...but rather breaking up his own online community rather try to grow it.
